BOWIE, Md. — Prince George's Community Federal Credit Union on Thursday announced the passing of its founder, A. Virginia Stallings.
The $146 million CU got its start in 1967 when Stallings, along with four other county employees, formed what originally was called Prince George's County Maryland Government Employees Federal Credit Union.
Stallings, a native of Prince George's County, oversaw the credit union's growth to 15,000 members. Eventually, the CU expanded to a full-service financial institution serving all of Prince George's County.

The credit union said Stallings contributed to the offering of many member-centric products — including "Pot of Gold" certificates and "Holiday Savings" accounts — that gave members a structured savings plan to attain their goals. Stallings' motto was, "I always have to look out for the 'little guy.'"
"She was an avid supporter of helping those with modest means attain the financial tools to improve their lives," the CU said while remembering Stallings' "life and legacy."
Stallings served on the Prince George's Community FCU board of directors in several executive positions, including "Emeritus Director" from 1967 until her passing last week.
Stallings is survived by three children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
