LIVE OAK, Texas — Randolph-Brooks FCU upgraded its mobile banking Android app to add a widget that allows users to view account balances without having to launch the app or log into it.
The credit union said the widget automatically refreshes itself all day long, providing up-to-date balance information.
The app, developed by Vertifi Software, Burlington, Mass., "lives" on the user's home screen for quick, easy access, according to RBFCU.
"The most common query our members make is for their account balances," said Mary O'Rourke, chief information officer, in a statement. "We receive thousands of requests daily through our online and automated voice response systems. The auto-updating widget provides this information to the user without having to log in to the full app. Only a couple of very large, national banks have introduced a similar feature, and RBFCU is the first credit union to use Android's home screen widget technology to provide this capability."
The $5.6 billion-asset credit union said it's also working on a similar feature for Apple iOS devices.
