ALBANY, N.Y. – The New York State Banking Department issued a warning last week of a scheme to issue counterfeit official checks on Municipal CU.
The counterfeit items display the routing number 011007092, which is assigned to Money Gram Payment Systems, Inc. and the drawee is the Bank of New York Mellon.
The items are similar to the authentic official checks; however, the differences of the checks are: he word Official Check is in a rectangular box on the original check it is not on the counterfeit check; the flower design on either side of the rectangular box on original check is missing on the counterfeit check; the octagon on the right hand side of the original check is missing on the counterfeit; the security lock on the original check is on the right side of the line with the two authorized signatures while the security locks (there are two) on the counterfeit check are in the center of the check.
