MACON, Ga. – One of three assailants who held-up Park Community FCU in 2007 and made off with $198,439 was sentenced Friday to 40 years in prison last week.
Merkuri Stanback, 28, and two accomplices entered the credit union on Dec. 28, 2007, and restrained employees before ransacking the teller area and emptying the vault, according to prosecutors. On their way out of the branch they took several purses from credit union members waiting to conduct business.
While fleeing, the robbers lost about $49,000 that authorities later found in an adjoining parking lot.
Macon police recovered the majority of the stolen money–much if it dye-stained--firearms and clothing used in the robbery from Stanback’s Macon apartment.
One of the accomplices, Frederick Clay, was arrested in Macon the night of the robbery. Stanback and one of the accomplices, Carmilla Davis, were arrested almost two weeks later at an Econo Lodge in Pensacola, Fla.
Clay has been sentenced to serve 25 years in prison. Davis is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 21.
