The assailants were tracked at speeds up to 100 miles per hour after they held up the branch in nearby Waunakee. But they were slowed to a stall as they approached afternoon rush hour on the city’s west side, prompting them to flee the getaway car in desperation.

Police said Gregory Walker, 41, was charged with bank robbery, armed robbery and resisting arrest, and Tyree Walker, the driver of the getaway car, was charged with knowingly fleeing an officer, resisting arrest, bank robbery and armed robbery.

Officers got to the scene a few minutes after the robbery took place. Witnesses said they saw a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed through an alley near the bank, with a witness getting the vehicle’s license plate number.

The license plate number was broadcast over the police scanner and a deputy spotted the vehicle a minute later at U.S. 12 and 19, several miles west of Waunakee.
