Rolling with Punches

LAS VEGAS — Wally Murray, president and CEO of Greater Nevada CU in Carson City, and also chairman of the Nevada Credit Union League, said his CU is in survival mode.

"We are moving forward and rolling with the punches," he said.

Greater Nevada closed some of its branches in the spring, but none since, Murray reported. He said the CU has had to lower rates to discourage deposits and protect its net worth ratio.

"We are focusing on direct lending to members," he said, when asked what its lending strategy is. "Also, we are putting together a preferred network of auto dealers. Those who do business with credit unions recognize the strength and value we have."
