SAN DIEGO – San Diego County CU surprised area beachgoers over the Labor Day weekend with a spoof of its own television commercials poking fun at the banks – this time with real actors on the beach.
The credit union’s “Beach Bankers Takeover” promotion posed fictional big bankers who repeated “Money, money” numerous times, just as viewers see on TV commercials.
The actors also sang wacky banking songs on the sands of San Diego’s most popular beaches and toted outrageous picket signs that reinforced the TV commercial’s messages.
“We had a lot of fun at the beach reminding consumers they can find a better deal at SDCCU than that offered at a big bank,” said Teresa Halleck, president of the $5-billion credit union.
Beachgoers took photos and videos with the fictional big bankers and entered a credit union sweepstakes to win up to $1,000, along with other cash prizes. Photos and videos also were posted to the credit union's Facebook page and TV/radio news crews covered the event.
