NORTH HAVEN, Conn. – Just in time for the holidays, three Christmas ‘elves’ surprised two married members of Connex CU as they arrived at the branch for what they thought would be a final coaching session for the credit union’s Savings Challenge with a mock $10,000 check for winning the contest.
The couple, from nearby Guilford, beamed as they were presented with flowers and an oversized check symbolizing their winnings in the year-long contest.
Three other competing households will receive $1,000 for their savings and debt-reduction accomplishments as part of the contest.
The winning Roches, Chris and Lori, parents of five children, said they have paid off at least $2,500 spread across two credit cards and will meet their goal of paying off a third one by January, with the help of the grand prize. Among their plans is to open an IRA retirement account and set aside more savings for retirement.
