OAKLAND, Calif. – The Silicon Valley Community Foundation awarded Self-Help Economic Development a $150,000 grant it will use to support a branch in the low-income immigrant community of East San Jose.

"Our goal is to increase the economic security of those in our region who are least secure," said Emmett Carson, CEO of the Foundation.

The Silicon Valley Foundation has awarded more than $250 million in 9,300 grants over its lifetime and gives, on average, 70 gifts per week.
