Service CU Expands FOM To Include All U.S. Veterans

Service Credit Union, a $2.65-billion institution based in Portsmouth, N.H., has recently been approved to add all former military veterans and Department of Defense civilian employees, regardless of their length of government service, and their families to its field of membership.

Prior to this expansion, only retired veterans with 20 or more years of service qualified for membership in the credit union.

Any veteran with a permanent U.S. address can become a member of the credit union by apply online at servicecu.org.

At present, Service has more than 210,000 members worldwide.

"This is a significant milestone for Service Credit Union," said president and CEO Gordon Simmons in a statement. "This expansion will pave the way for the millions of veterans to take advantage of our Veterans Program which offers price benefits on deposits and loans. With our state-of-the-art technology, these members can bank anytime, anywhere."

Under the Veterans Program, members will receive price benefits on deposits and loans. For example, under terms of the Veterans Affinity Visa Credit Card, 2% of any credit card interest paid by anyone in the Veterans Program will be donated to select Veterans organizations.

Service also explained that to satisfy the needs of an expanded membership, the credit union has already made "significant investments" in new technology including enhanced online banking and bill pay, mobile apps, remote check deposit, text messaging, and FinanceWorks, online personal finance management tool.
