PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – Service CU joined local retailers in their day-after-Thanksgiving sale with a special 10% three-month CD and discounted loan sale.
Most people packed the branches on Black Friday for the popular 10% APY for 3–months certificate with a $250 minimum and $1,000 maximum. Others took advantage of the 1% off auto and personal loans or no fees on gift cards.
The sale also included a free $25 Service CU gift card when a member took out an instantly-issued Visa credit card.
The Black Friday One-Day Sale attracted hundreds of new members to Service CU. Certificate sales at the credit union were 20 times greater than a normal business day, while there was a lift of 225% over regular loan business. In addition, Service CU sold 70 times more gift cards on Black Friday than a regular business day.
The promotion began at 5 a.m. and ended at noon for locations in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, while the branches in Germany held the special for seven hours with staggered early openings. The credit union also offered reusable oversized shopping bags with coupons. All in-store branches at Wal-Marts offered free water to shoppers, along with holding hourly gift card drawings.
