TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Identification of an alleged robber at Alabama CU and hold ups in two other states was made more difficult because the suspect had breast enlargement surgery and was a pre-operative transvestite, prosecutors testified at the opening day of the trial yesterday.
Jimmy Maurice Lewis II, 26, charged with making off with $9,609 in credit union cash last Nov. 9, initially was identified as a woman, but he is a pre-operative transvestite, according to federal agents. The police report describes the suspect in the Alabama CU case as a woman of average height and weight in her mid-40s wearing a multicolored head scarf.
“Some witnesses said it was a man, others said it was a woman,” said one federal agent.
Lewis also is believed to be responsible for robberies in Tennessee and Texas. In a December robbery at First National Bank in Plano, Texas, the suspect, believed to be Lewis, wore a black leather jacket and pants and a black turtleneck, had long, black hair, and carried a brown purse.
Lewis was arrested Jan. 18 in Los Angeles after getting off a plane.
