TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A federal jury took just 36 minutes yesterday to convict Jimmy Lewis of last November’s robbery at Alabama CU, despite confusing surveillance footage showing the 26-year-old transvestite dressed as a woman, complete with breast augmentation surgery.
Lewis, wanted in two other states on bank robbery charges, was arrested January 11 as he got off a plane at LAX Airport in Los Angeles.
At the time of the Alabama CU robbery, Lewis was out on bond from Cleveland, Tenn., where he had been arrested and accused of robbing a bank there. He is also suspected of robbing another bank in Plano, Texas last December.
Lewis, who made off with $9,609 in credit union cash last November 9, was initially identified as a woman, but he is a pre-operative transvestite, according to federal agents. The police report describes the suspect in the Alabama CU case as a woman of average height and weight in her mid-40s wearing a multicolored head scarf.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 11.
