SIU Credit Union CEO to Retire

Dennis Schaefer will retire as president and chief executive of SIU Credit Union in Carbondale, Illinois, on April 15.

William Capie, the credit union’s chairman, will serve as interim CEO and Mike Lantrip, vice president of finance, will assume the role of executive vice president while the board searches for candidates to fill Schaefer’s roles.

Schaefer was named SIU president and CEO in 2008. Previously, he had worked as the loan department manager of DeKalb County Teachers FCU in Atlanta, CEO of the State Employee CU in New Orleans, and vice president and chief lending officer at First Community CU in Houston.

Established in 1938, SIU has six branches in southern Illinois and has about 37,000 members and serves the Southern Illinois University community and surrounding areas.
