SIU credit union announced Mike Lantrip as the new President/CEO of the $320 million CU effective Aug. 1.
Lantrip replaces William S. Capie, the Carbondale, Ill.-based credit union's chairman of the board, who stepped up to the plate on an interim basis while the CU sought a permanent replacement for Dennis Schaefer upon Schaefer's retirement. Lantrip follows in the footsteps of his father, Ron Lantrip, who served in the same position for 16 years.
Lantrip has been an employee at SIUCU since 1983 where he started as a part-time teller and rose through the ranks to executive vice president. The CU said that Lantrip has been involved with product development, digital delivery channels, payment services, partnerships, advocacy, strategic planning and financial soundness.
"I've had the unique opportunity to spend the last 33 years working and growing along with SIU Credit Union," the new CEO said. "Today, I'm honored by the board's willingness to entrust in me the opportunity to lead as president and CEO.
Lantrip serves as the Legislative Forum Representative for the Egyptian Chapter of Illinois CUs — advocating the credit union difference. He also volunteers at the annual Saluki Baseball Fish Fry and Auction. The CU noted that Lantrip has recently earned his Certified Credit Union Executive (CCUE) designation from the Credit Union National Association.
"SIU credit union is truly fortunate to have someone as talented and knowledgeable as Mike prepared to assume the responsibility of CEO/President," said Interim President Capie. "His background and experience will assist in making a seamless transition in the leadership of the credit union. He has demonstrated an ability to deal effectively with people and find equitable solutions to complex and sensitive problems. Mike has earned the confidence and respect of those who know him."
