Smart Financial Credit Union in Houston has promoted from within to fill a position vacated by a longtime executive.
The $650 million-asset CU said Virginia “Jenny” Smith has retired as president and CEO of two of its subsidiaries, Smart Financial Resources and Smart Financial Foundation. The credit union promoted Jason Deitz to succeed Smith in both roles.
“Leading both the Smart Financial Resources and the Smart Financial Foundation has been one of the top highlights of my career,” Smith said in a statement. “I am grateful to Smart Financial Credit Union for the opportunity to take on both of these roles and for its continued support of the Smart Financial Foundation’s ongoing work. I believe we have truly made a positive impact on the lives of the communities in which we serve and under Jason Deitz’s guidance will continue to do so for years to come.”
Smith has worked in the credit union movement for 43 years. She started in the business as a branch manager at an office in Japan for San Diego Navy Federal CU. She later became president and CEO of Key Federal CU and also worked for Houston Area Teachers CU, which later rebranded as Smart Financial CU. Smith held various positions with Smart Financial’s executive team including senior vice president of medical operations and senior vice president of business development and facilities.
Deitz was previously vice president of Smart Financial Resources and the Smart Financial Foundation.
