The company’s findings are from its latest Money Mindset Index, which found among people who paid a bill using a mobile device, 65% did so using smart phones and 25% using tablets.

But U.S. consumers are not just using online and mobile options to pay bills. The quarterly survey shows:

• 36% of consumers use three or more channels, such as online, in-person, and others, to pay their monthly bills

• 38% use three or more payment methods, such as credit card, debit card, ACH or cash, to pay their monthly bills

• 18% of multi-method bill payers and 27% of multi-channel bill payers used a mobile phone to pay at least one bill per month

David Shapiro, senior vice president, payments, told Credit Union Journal that mobile device ownership and usage are changing consumers’ bill payment behaviors. “Growth in mobile bill payment is happening extremely fast, and 15% of people surveyed who currently do not pay bills via a mobile device say they plan to do so in the future.”

The survey conducted was conducted in March by Javelin Strategy & Research, reaching 3,087 respondents.
