‘Smurf Bandit’ Confesses To Three Navy Fed Heists

SAN DIEGO – A parolee of short stature on Monday confessed to four local robberies, including three at Navy FCU branches.

The robber, known as the “Smurf Bandit” for his height, admitted involvement in a series of heists between May 13 and 26 in La Mesa, Liberty Station, Rancho Bernardo and Oceanside.

The robber, Kevin High, 25, has a record of financial theft-related cases and a burglary conviction from 2005.

High confessed to robbing Navy Fed branches three times last May, for $500, $3,000 and $2,400.

He was arrested June 2 at his San Ysidro home.
