Something Old, Something Borrowed

Thanks for covering the i3 Filene Research Institute group on creative ideas in the Sept. 26 issue (Page 37, MatriMoney). It's nice to see so many people thinking outside the box. It just goes to show how an old idea can be revived quickly. Marketers should take that to heart and rethink old ideas to see how they can be used today.

The wedding registry is not a new idea at all. In fact, an October 2003 issue of Marketing on a Shoestring (an e-zine that has since been renamed to PR Minute) suggested that very idea to credit unions. Furthermore, FHA loans have long since allowed a couple to receive cash gifts in a wedding gift account and view that money as an acceptable source of funds for a downpayment.

Credit Union Journal readers can subscribe to PR Minute at no cost at www.cuva.us. Keep up the great work covering fresh credit union marketing ideas. Marketers have a lot to learn in every issue of CU Journal!
