Star of Texas Credit Union gets new sheriff

Stephanie Sievers has been named president and CEO of Austin-based Star of Texas Credit Union, effective February 4.

The CU’s search was conducted by Credit Union Resources, a division of the Cornerstone Credit Union League, which told CU Journal via email that Sievers succeeds retired CEO Frances Laurel.

Sievers comes to the $35 million-asset credit union with a history of serving small CUs. She most recently spent one year as the contract CEO of $3.7 million-asset Sisseton-Wahpeton Federal Credit Union in Agency Village, S.D., and prior to that spent six years as the chief executive at $107 million-asset ANECA FCU in Shreveport, La.

A former member of the “Crash network,” the group now known as the Cooperative Trust, Sievers is one of a handful of early participants in the group to be named a credit union CEO before their 40th birthday. Others on that list include Ronaldo Hard at Southwest Louisiana CU and Brandon Michaels at JSC FCU.

Sievers holds an M.S. in finance from the University of Miami; an MBA from Louisiana State University-Shreveport; and an M.S. in health and physical education from Louisiana Tech University.

In addition, she serves on the boards of the Credit Union National Association, the Louisiana Credit Union League, the Shreveport/Bossier Credit Union Executive Association and CU*South.

Star of Texas posted net income of about $244,000 in 2018, a 68 percent increase from the prior calendar year.
