Mary Kjersem, 44, admitted she stole $18,000 from the credit union’s ATM, and the balance from her cash drawer. The audit committee determined a theft total of $34,214.97.

The embezzlement occurred between Jan. 1 and Nov. 3, the day the credit union’s supervisory committee brought its complaint to the police department when Kjersem accompanied two committee members and confessed, according to court records. When Kjersem saw that an audit was being conducted, she immediately admitted to the theft, committee member William Spaulding told police.

Kjersem, who worked at the credit union for three years, is scheduled to be sentenced July 24.
