CHICAGO – Nearly half of all American indicated in a new survey that they are living paycheck to paycheck.
The survey, conducted by NetCredit.com, found 44% of respondents saying payday cannot come often enough. The poll also found, not surprisingly, that 44% said they are only trying to stay up to date on bills or home payments and avoid excessive debt or bankruptcy.
Among those most concerned with living paycheck to paycheck were respondents in their 30s (62%).
NetCredit noted in its analysis half of those surveyed were one unexpected financial expense away from disaster.
If the respondents were faced with a financial emergency, they say they would rely on general savings (61%), credit cards (23%), borrowing from family or friends (15%), pawning or selling items (7%), and/or a bank loan (5%).
