Suspects Stole Rental Information To Tap Into Navy FCU Accounts

NORFOLK, Va. – Five individuals were arrested Friday and charged with accessing information of people who had applied for housing at a Norfolk apartment complex to siphon almost $90,000 from the victim’s Navy FCU accounts.

They used the information to apply for loans in the names of the victims by telephone or Internet and to empty the accounts, according to authorities.

The suspects worked together from January to March to steal personal information, including names, social security numbers, birthdates, and account information, from those who applied for housing at the North Shore Gardens Apartments in Norfolk, according to authorities. With the information, they identified people's accounts at the credit union.

The suspects were all charged in U.S. District Court with conspiracy, bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.
