MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Security software maker Symantec yesterday said it completed the $1.28 billion acquisition of VeriSign's Web-authentication business.
The acquisition, announced in May, includes VeriSign's Secure Sockets Layer – or SSL – technology, which is used by businesses such as banks and retailers to ensure their websites are safe for consumers to use.
The VeriSign unit will become part of Symantec's enterprise security group. Symantec plans to develop a new corporate identity for the authentication service that will incorporate VeriSign's check-mark logo.
