Team of 24 CU Leaders Attend Conference in Tanzania

A team of 24 credit union leaders and guests from across the U.S. visited Tanzania for the Educruise Africa Safari conference in August as part of a credit union development educator exchange trip.

The conference, hosted by the Credit Union Educruises organization, featured keynote speaker Duncan Njiri, who is part of the Kenyan credit union movement and manager of Majanees Savings and Credit Co-Op Society.

According to a release following the trip, Njiri offered a historical overview of credit union operations in Africa and compared and contrasted CUs from around the world.

"We realized that domestic issues are indeed global," said Njiri, a 2012 graduate of the Southwest CUNA Management program.

The conference, held in the city of Arusha, was a continuing education program for credit union leaders to broaden their understanding of the international credit union movement.
