SafeID Aims To Boost Security

MADISON, Wis.-CUNA Network Services, a provider of online business solutions to credit unions, has introduced a means of providing secure member-access to online financial and personal services called safeID. "safeID combines a smart card chip, Universal Serial Bus or USB connector and operating system software on a house key-sized device," said John Hobko, president. "This essentially allows a user to plug the smart electronic key fob directly into the standard USB port on a PC, eliminating the need for a card reader and power supply." Hobko said members will be able to use secure authentication via safeID to access their credit union's Internet banking system, as well as store and manage personal data, including favorite URLs, passwords, addresses and accounts.

safeID features services such as myProfile, a software application that stores cardholder information on the smart card chip allowing the cardholder to automatically fill out appropriate web forms, as well as store, edit and update multiple addresses at any time. The myWallet feature stores data from multiple credit cards including everything related to a transaction such as cardholder name, expiration date, card type/number and cardholder address.
