OGDEN, Utah – One of as many as 10 suburban teenage girls who kited thousands of dollars of checks between several credit unions this week was sentenced to 45 days in county jail.
Britney Thorpe, 19, of Riverdale, also was ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to Weber CU, America First CU and Mountain America CU.
Thorpe and her friends opened checking accounts at the credit unions, then overdrew the accounts, according to police. At least three accomplices have pleaded guilty and the cases of three friends are still pending.
Several of the women had pulled the same scam when they were juveniles and apparently avoided serious consequences, according to police.
