FORT WORTH - Eleven area credit unions co-sponsored a full-page newspaper ad in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram over the weekend aimed primarily at customers of one local bank that was until recently was a credit union. The ad, headlined, "Mega Bank," asks in its sub headline, "Did your credit union turn into a bank?" The colors used and even one graphic image are similar to those of OmniAmerican Bank, the former OmniAmerican FCU, which, like nearby Community CU (now ViewPoint Bank)converted to a bank. Ad copy then goes on to provide the definitions of a bank ("a for-profit financial establishment that invests money deposited by customers for the profit of its shareholders") and a credit union ("a not-for-profit financial cooperative whose members can borrow from pooled deposits at low interest rates"). "Make Your Move, Choose a Credit Union" states copy above the logos of the 11 ad co-sponsors.
