Not to be confused with "Star Trek" Trekkies, employees at Texas Tech Federal Credit Union follow the CU's core values credo: Trust, Respect, Excellence, Kindness and Stewardship (TREKS).

This past year, management created a "fun" way to recognize TREKS employees by letting employees nominate colleagues who demonstrate TREKS values, explained Human Resources Director Tyler Young.

"Each month, we'll draw one winner from the nomination cards and they will receive a gift card," said Young. "Each nominated employee will receive their nomination card to recognize their commitment to our values."

The CU's core values are also realized in the communities its serves. To this end, employees are given one paid day off per quarter to serve community organizations. Last year, 90% of employees participated and raised money for 23 charities.

"Our team has helped in home renovations, packed food boxes for the hungry, assisted in life skills classes with special needs adults and hosted a Christmas Party for a retirement home," said Young. "It's a great way for our employees to give back."

A new communication infinitive was also recently launch called "branch huddles." These monthly meetings celebrate employee accomplishments and provide a forum for discussing branch goals as well as ways to motivate team members. Employees are also encouraged to complete a manager evaluation form.

"The manager evaluations were designed by a group of employees," said Young. "All evaluation information is reported in aggregate to assure complete confidentiality. The results of each manager evaluation are included in the manager's annual performance evaluation."

Founded in 1959, Texas Tech FCU currently operates four branches and supports more than 11,300 members.
