SEATTLE – Three men were charged yesterday with skimming as much as $500,000 from automated teller machines at BECU, Watermark CU and First Tech CU, as well as Chase Bank ATMs.
The three were involved in two different conspiracies involving the placement of “skimming” equipment on ATMs or access doors, and the use of small cameras to record individuals’ personal identification numbers, according to authorities.
The men are accused of fixing their own card readers onto the debit card slots on ATMs, as well as pinhole cameras above the PIN pads to record members’ and customers’ personal identification numbers. The information was subsequently used to create bogus credit and debit cards which were used to make fraudulent transactions.
