HOUSTON – One member of Associated CU agreed to donate all the groceries she was able to collect during a three-minute shopping spree she won at a Kroger store in the Associated CU Grocery Tackle Challenge to a local food bank.
The more than $300 in food collected was immediately donated to the Bay Area Turning Point, a non-profit food pantry.
Candy Wirt, 62, was the third of three shoppers selected for the credit union’s first Grocery Tackle Challenge. After touching base with Turning Point officials, Wirt decided to focus on collecting chicken, beef and produce – the top needs identified by the pantry.
She was accompanied by a credit union representative, who helped push the cart and made sure she only picked up one item at a time.
