Two CUs Promote From Within For New CEOs

OMAHA, Neb. — Centris FCU here, and Direct FCU, Needham, Mass., both looked within their own ranks to find their new chief executives.

Steve Swanstrom, who had been serving as SVP-retail financial services is the new president and CEO of $531 million Centris Federal Credit Union, while Direct FCU has tapped its SVP-lending to be the new president and CEO of the $425 million CU.

Swanstrom joined Centris in 2009 as VP, director of mortgage services. He was promoted to SVP in 2012.

The former president and CEO, Kevin Parks, resigned in September after being with Centris for five years. At that time, Swanstrom was appointed interim CEO. Swanstrom was formally appointed March 12 and the official announcement to the CU's membership occurred late May, with Swanstrom being the featured spotlight in the member newsletter.

During his career, Swanstrom has worked for several regional and community banks. His financial services career began as a teller. Recent experiences include first vice president, residential real estate mortgage manager; VP, assistant treasurer; VP, mortgage sales administration manager; and, VP, interest rate risk manager.

Centris FCU was chartered in 1934. It is one of Nebraska's largest community chartered credit unions with more than 79,000 members. Centris serves Douglas, Sarpy, Lincoln and Pottawattamie counties and has 11 branches located in Omaha, Grand Island and North Platte, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa.

At Direct Federal, Walsh is succeeding David Breslin, who led the CU for 29 years. Walsh joined DFCU 23 years ago, after having worked at BankBoston, Deloitte & Touche and the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

Direct FCU was founded in 1953 and currently serves more than 25,000 members.
