Two-Decades of Community Car Sales At End

Two-Decades of Community Car Sales At End
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.–Thanks to a technicality in the law, SRP Federal Credit Union here is no longer allowing its parking lot to be used to show cars for sale on weekends.

The lot at the credit union’s Southside office had been filled with vehicles, including motorcycles and boats, all bearing For Sale signs. But the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles has put the brakes on the operation, citing state law in which financing can not be available at the place a vehicle is being sold unless taking place at a dealership. The credit union is not licensed as a dealer.

According to the credit union, locals have been using the credit union’s parking lot for more than 20 years years to sell their vehicles.
