WILMINGTON, N.C. – The owner of a vandalized 1998 Saturn won $5,000 cash toward the purchase of a new car as part of Alliance’s CU’s ‘Ugly Car Contest.’
The car, owned by a North Carolina member of the credit union, won the contest by receiving 336 votes over Facebook’s ‘Fan Page," which enabled credit union members to share pictures of their ugly cars. The ugly car was showcased Saturday at the credit union’s North Carolina facility during a luncheon ceremony.
The San Jose, Calif.-based credit union launched the contest to emphasize that even though the government’s ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program has ended it is still inviting members to trade-in their old vehicles for new cars.
"With the success of the government's 'Cash for Clunkers' program, Alliance realized how many people need help getting a new car," said Emily Condon, senior vice president, marketing and retail delivery. "The 'Ugly Car Contest' is our small way of helping a member while keeping the spirit of the 'clunkers' program alive."
