MARION, Ind. – As one of the first moves under its new moniker, Via CU closed down two branches and merged them into a new service center at the same lot.
The new name for the former Marion School Employees FCU was developed because too many people in the community believed the $200 million credit union was open only to school employees. Actually, it has been open to non-school employees since the 1980s.
In developing the new name, a 10-person committee consisting of credit union members, staff, members of a board of directors and management, worked with a national company to mull over more than 150 names. The committee settled on two names – Via and Logix – and then had credit union members vote on which name they preferred. Although it was a close vote, the majority of members decided they liked Via better.
