Washington, Oregon Leagues Announce Plans To Merge

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. and BEAVERTON, Ore. – The Washington CU League and the CU Association of Oregon announced last night plans to merge, the latest of combination of state credit union groups.

The new association will represent about 200 credit unions in the northwest, including 120 in Washington and 80 in Oregon. The two state groups have been discussing a merger for more than 20 years.

“The executive leadership and boards of the two organizations are aligned in common purpose, vision and desired objectives,” says Washington CU President John Annaloro. “In addition to eventual cost efficiencies, the proposal would create an organization with a strong national voice that empowers northwest credit unions to exercise more influence within the national credit union system and among third-party product and service providers.”

The combination s the latest merger between state leagues, with the most recent being last year’s marriage of the Florida and Alabama leagues.
