WHITEFISH, Mont. – Charlie Abell retired as president and CEO of Whitefish CU, after 44 years at the credit union.
Almost 1,500 members and employees turned out Saturday to celebrate the credit union’s 75th anniversary and to salute Abell.
During his time Abell built the credit union, chartered by workers for the Great Northern Railway, from just $750,000 in assets, to more than $1.1billion. Now it serves 57,000 members in four northwest Montana counties.
Abell leaves the credit union on solid ground. It grew its assets by 16% over the past 12 months, reported a strong $2.2 million net for the first half of 2009 and more than 9% net worth at June 30.
