Widowed Mother Of Five Wins CP FCU’s Home Giveaway

JACKSON, Mich. – A 35-year-old single mother of five children, ages 3 to 14, will have a new home, thanks to CP FCU’s “Wish Upon A Home” giveaway.

Tina Greer, a widow, and her five children now live in a deteriorating mobile home in the Parma area. She has been hurting since losing her husband to a fatal car crash and her job, both in 2006.

The Greer family soon will live in a 1,780-square-foot home on Grinnell Street that has four bedrooms, hardwood floors, a patio and fenced-in yard. The credit union obtained the home through a foreclosure.

A panel of volunteers performed in-home interviews with four finalists and chose the Greers as the winners.

The home was awarded under a mortgage agreement that will require Greer to live there for five years. She will own the home for free after that, although she will have to pay property taxes and other expenses.

Applicants were asked to go through an interview and were subject to background and credit checks. They had to meet income requirements, live in Jackson County and be in need of adequate, affordable housing.
