Wildfire CU Member Loses $2,000 In Parking Lot; Diebold Rep Returns It

SAGINAW, Mich.—A Wildfire CU member had $2,000 returned to him Friday after leaving an envelope with the cash in the parking lot of the CU's Bay Road office.

Tony Michalak, a representative from Diebold, was servicing the location's automated teller machine and found the envelope. Michalak took the package inside the branch and handed it to a teller saying he found the envelope in the parking lot.

The teller opened the envelope, saw the money inside and said a member had just reported he lost the cash and hoped someone found it. The teller thanked Michalak, who said he simply did the right thing.

Linda McGee, VP of marketing at Wildfire, told Credit Union Journal the member had just made a large withdrawal, placed the money in three envelopes and dropped one. "It was an ugly, rainy day and the member did not notice, at first, that one of the envelopes was missing. The envelope was laying a muddy puddle in the parking lot when Mr. Michalak discovered it on his way to his car."

Wildfire declined to release the name of the member who lost the money.
