Woodco CU Now In CanDo Mode After Tornado's Destruction

MILLBURY, Ohio – Woodco CU expects to be operating out of nearby CanDo CU today or tomorrow after its offices in the local high school were destroyed by the weekend's tornado.

Seven people were killed by the tornado, which destroyed much of Lake High School, inside of which was located the $9 million credit union's office.

Woddco CEO Juanita Zunk feels fortunate that the tornado did not destroy the credit union’s backup computer tapes or the cash vault, and that no members or staff lost their lives. “This was a life-changing event,” Zunk told Credit Union Journal. “What happened at the credit union is devastating, and we are working to restore all of our services to our members. But what could have happened to others is much worse.”

Zunk said a member of the credit union's outsourced IT team is fighting for his life at a local hospital, suffering from a skull fracture. “He lost his wife and his son, too. Our prayers are with him.”

CanDo is a $9-million credit union in nearby Walbridge, Ohio. Zunk said it may be Woodco's temporary home for a few months as the credit union determines where it will relocate.
