CU Keeps Spreading Its [FOM] Wings
APPLE VALLEY, Minn.-The $2.2-billion Wings Financial Credit Union has expanded its FOM to include anyone in the 13-county Twin Cities metro area, along with two counties in Wisconsin. The credit union, originally chartered to serve Northwest Airlines and then approved for a TIP charter to serve air transportation-related industries, has 123,000 members.
Operation Best Wishes 2009 Kicks Off
SAN DIMAS, Calif.-WesCorp has kicked off its sixth national tour of Operation Best Wishes, a way for credit unions to help military families reach out to their deployed loved ones during the holidays through video recordings sent via the Internet.
Launched at Langley FCU in Newport News, Va., over the next seven weeks the team from WesCorp will once again traverse the U.S. and visit 17 credit unions in 15 states, all of which serve the military. According to WesCorp, the 2009 tour represents the most extensive number of credit unions ever to participate. WesCorp said it expects it will have offered about 960 webcast recording sessions to some 2,700 truly military family members and friends.
At each credit union, the team sets up a mobile webcast studio, complete with cameras, microphones and monitors. Families and enlisted are then invited to webcast their free holiday greetings to relatives and deployed loved ones during their allotted 10-minute recording session. The Defense CU Council also helps support the event.

Pueblo City ECU Merges Wtih Aventa CU
PUEBLO, Colo.-Peublo City Employees Credit Union is being absorbed by merge with Aventa Credit Union, Colorado Springs, but like several recent mergers it is retaining its name. When completed the CU will have approximately 18,000 members and $150 million in assets.
Task Force Recommends Creating New CDCU
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-A task force here has recommended a community development credit union be chartered to help the city's most distressed neighborhoods. The New Tools Task Force told City Council such a model is already in place in Denver and St. Louis and would help to renew the urban core. The New Tools district would encompass about 40 square miles where 100,000 people live south of the Missouri River to 87th Street here. The task force said a group is working to establish the credit union sometime in 2010.
