Charter Oak CEO Honored Posthumously
GROTON, Conn.-The Connecticut CU League has established a charitable fund supporting small credit unions that has been named in honor of former Charter Oak CEO Larry Hertell. The posthumous honor was given to Hertell to recognize his efforts to build CU awareness. The league presented plaques honoring Hertell to both the credit union, and Hertell's wife, Sandy.
CUES Establishes Director Hall Of Fame
MADISON, Wis.-CUES has created a Director Hall of Fame, and named the inaugural class of 24 members. The two-dozen people to be honored are past winners of CUES' Director of the Year Award, and will be recognized during CUES Directors Conference Dec. 6-9 in Palm Desert, Calif. "We established the CUES Director Hall of Fame to give credit union volunteers the special recognition they deserve for their dedication to the movement," said Fred Johnson, CUES' president/CEO.
Freedom Absorbs University House FCU
WARMINSTER, Penn.-The $390-million Freedom Credit Union has absorbed via merger the tiny University House FCU, which has just 35 members and $80,000 in assets.
Omega Taps Garvin To Serve As New CEO
PITTSBURGH-The OMEGA FCU has tapped 20-year CU veteran Troy L. Garvin to be its next CEO. Prior to joining the $75-million OMEGA FCU, Garvin was the EVP/CFO of Security CU and CEO of Lapeer County Community CU, both located in Michigan. Troy brings over 20 years of credit union experience to OMEGA FCU.

NAFCU, DDJ Myers Team Up On Leadership
WASHINGTON-NAFCU and DDJ Myers have teamed up to launch their joint Strategic Leadership Development course to be held in Scottsdale, Ariz., Jan. 27-29. It is the first in the dynamic, interactive NAFCU-DDJ Myers Advancing Leadership Series.
