Obama Campaign Manager On Agenda

Two CU Veterans Have Passed Away
GURNEE, Ill.-John "Jay" McCaughey Sr., who spent 50 years in leadership positions at Warren Township CU here, passed away in October at the age of 87. McCaughey took over the treasurer position at the credit union in 1956 and ran the institution out of his basement while still working full-time as the local postmaster. He retired from the post office in 1978 and worked full time as president of the credit union until 1997. Though he had retired as president, McCaughey stayed involved as the board treasurer until 2006. McCaughey, who also served on the state league's board from 1992-1996, was inducted into the CU Hall of Fame in April 1997.
In Allenport, Penn., Russell Bergstedt, president of Mon Valley Community FCU, has also died. Bergstedt had been president of the credit union for more than 25 years and was one of the founders of the annual Mon Valley Chapter ARC golf tournament. "Russ was a strong leader for credit unions in the state and Mon Valley and also for the United Steel Workers Union. His voice will be missed," said Pennsylvania CU Association CEO Jim McCormack.
Shell Wins Community CU Of Year Award
DEER PARK, Texas-Shell FCU was recently honored as it received the Award of Merit for National Community Credit Union of the Year. The award, established by CUNA, recognizes community CUs that are proactive in the cooperative movement, active in their communities and best meet the needs of their memberships with various products and services. Shell FCU offers free financial literacy programs for members and encourages volunteer work.
Missouri League's Rosie Holub To Retire
ST. LOUIS-The Missouri CU Association announced its president and CEO Roshara Holub will retire at year-end 2010. Holub took over the Missouri League in 1999 after having served in management jobs with the New Mexico and Wyoming leagues, and with Alaska USA FCU, Denali FCU, and Kirtland FCU. Holub is currently chair of CU House, LLC in Washington, and has served as the chair of the American Association of CU Leagues and of the CU Legislative Action Council, the political action committee for CUNA.
