More Than $1M Raised To Help In Haiti...

MADISON, Wis.-The World Council of Credit Unions is reporting that more than $1 million has now been raised for its Haiti Relief Fund, which provides assistance to credit unions in that country as it works to recover from the Jan. 12 earthquake. The fund was pushed over the $1 million mark by a $25,000 donation from Georgia Credit Union Affiliates. WOCCU was seven months into its first development efforts in Haiti when the January earthquake struck. WOCCU staff is currently working with credit unions, local organizations and even the national regulator to provide short-term emergency relief in the form of food, water and tents in Haiti's capital of Port-au-Prince and in nearby L

Popular Debt in Focus Program Now Available

MADISON, Wis.-Debt in Focus, an anonymous, web-based debt management tool, is now available for credit unions that want to help members make smart decisions about family finances. Debt in Focus, the result of a partnership between the Filene Research Institute's i3 group and Ent FCU, was beta-tested by 288 credit unions and 150,000 consumers over the past 10 months. Filene said feedback from this beta period led to significant program enhancements, which were completed on April 1. Some 126 CUs have already signed on. "Members can check up on their financial health anonymously through the Internet, removing the most common barrier that prevents consumers from seeking financial help, while eliminating almost all the of the costs associated with providing such assistance," Filene noted. The site can be custom branded, and it also includes white label marketing campaigns, collateral, peer-to-peer support, and video content.

CUES Reports CEO Institute Has Sold Out

MADISON, Wis.-CUES reported that 133 people have enrolled in its three week-long CEO Institute courses, meaning it has reached capacity. The CEO Institute is held over three years at three business schools: The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; Johnson Graduate School of Management, Cornell University, and Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Virginia, Charlottesville. NCUA, Tech Council To Co-Host Web Seminar

WASHINGTON-NCUA and the CUNA Technology Council will co-host a webinar on May 5 on improving online services. Scheduled to run from 2-3:30 p.m. EDT, the webinar "will offer cutting-edge ideas for credit unions to better serve existing members and to attract new members - especially young, tech-savvy consumers," NCUA said.

Connex Absorbs St. Boniface Parish CU

NORTH HAVEN, Conn.-The $386-million Connex Credit Union has absorbed via merger New Haven, Conn.-based St. Boniface Parish CU. Founded in 1934, SBPCU had just $403,000 in assets and 129 members.
