MADISON, Wis.-The National CU Foundation has named the winners of its 2012 Herb Wegner Awards. For the first time, two people will be presented with the Herb Wegner Award for Lifetime Achievement: Tom Dorety, president/CEO of Suncoast Schools FCU in Tampa, Fla., and Bill Eckhardt, CEO of Alaska USA FCU in Anchorage. Invest in America, meanwhile, which was created by the Michigan league and recognized by Credit Union Journal as its 2010 Innovation of the Year, was named winner of the 2012 Herb Wegner Memorial Award for Outstanding Program.

ICUS Staff, NCUA Reps Hold Meeting

NAPERVILLE, Ill.-Senior management of the Illinois CU System met with representatives of NCUA Region IV at the league's offices here. The league said discussion primarily centered on working together to better resolve small CU issues; 72 percent of the 380 CUs in Illinois have $25 million or less in assets.

100th Medallion Loan Funded

SAN FRANCISCO-San Francisco FCU said it has now funded its 100th San Francisco taxi medallion since launching the loan program one year ago. Yoseph Awoke was the recipient. San Francisco FCU oversees the program, with San Francisco Police CU and San Francisco Fire CU also participating.

More Credit Unions In Mergers

FAIRFAX, Va.-The $1.35-billion Apple FCU here said it will merge with the $180-million Synergy One FCU. In Endicott, N.Y., meanwhile, the $2.6-billion Visions FCU here is absorbing via merger the $330-million Paragon FCU, Montvale, N.J. The combined CU will have 29 branches and serve 166,000 members.

Two New CEOs Named

SALISBURY, N.C.-Mark Curran has been named president/CEO of $30-million Lion's Share Credit Union. Curran had previously served as SVP-business development with Palmetto Cooperative Services LLC and held positions with CUNA Mutual and Coastal FCU. Meanwhile, in Arlington, Wash., MountainCrest CU has named Mark Morrison as its new CEO, succeeding the retiring Bob Schumacher. Morrison was previously president/CEO at Educational Community CU before it merged into MountainCrest.

Trio Named In Prohibition Orders

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA has issued prohibition orders against three people: Brian Zimmerman, formerly of LEBCO Educators FCU in Lebanon, Penn., who has denied fault, but consented to a prohibition order to avoid the time and expense of litigation; Nazreen Mohammed, formerly of Fairwinds CU, Orlando, who was convicted of bank fraud and aggravated identity theft; and Sandra Ann Jeffers, a former employee of P.C. Glassworkers CU, Sedalia, Mo., was convicted of embezzlement.

FECCU, Special Needs Group Partner

BAY CITY, Mich.--FinancialEdge Community CU has formed a partnership with an organization that serves people with special needs. FECCU said it will provide financial services to trainees and employees of Do-All Inc. through a branch it is opening at the Do-All facility here. The branch will be open one day a week.

Federation Pilot To Aid Elderly

NEW YORK--The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions and the National Council on Aging (NCOA) are entering into a national initiative to help seniors achieve economic security.
