NAFCU Promotes 2 In Gov't Affairs
WASHINGTON-NAFCU has promoted two people in its governmental affairs area. Jillian Pevo has been promoted to senior associate director of legislative affairs, and Curt Long has been promoted to staff economist.
CFPB's Cordray On GAC Agenda
WASHINGTON-New Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray will appear at CUNA's GAC on March 19 as part of an afternoon general session. "American Idol" star Taylor Hicks will perform at the opening concert, sponsored by the CUNA Councils. GAC will take place March 18-22 at the Washington Convention Center.
UNFCU's Connery Sets Retirement
NEW YORK--United Nations Federal Credit Union President and CEO Michael J. Connery, Jr. said he will retire from the position effective on Jan. 1, 2013.
Connery, 67, has spent nearly 24 years at the helm of UNFCU, overseeing growth to $3.5-billion from $235 million.
Foundation Honors Retiring CEO
DUBUQUE, Iowa-In honor of Robert W. (Bob) Hoefer's retirement as Dupaco Community CU's CEO, the credit union has formed the Dupaco R.W. Hoefer Foundation, which will seek to provide funding for "personal financial assistance and coaching to help hard-working and financially prudent Dupaco members recover from unforeseen life events and to increase opportunity through education."
10% CD For Military Members
WOODBRIDGE Va.-Belvoir FCU, the credit union for Fort Belvoir, rewarded its members with a special 10% CD in honor of the National Military Saves campaign. The $280-million credit union, which serves Fort Belvoir and the U.S. Army from outside of Washington, sold 24 of the certificates to eligible service members. Military Saves is an offshoot of the America Saves program and is aimed at encouraging military families towards long-term savings and wealth-building. As part of the campaign servicemen and women are encouraged to "Take the Pledge" to build wealth rather than debt.
Maple Hill Merging Into Connexus
WAUSAU, Wis.-Members of the $11.3-million Maple Hill CU have agreed to merge into the $340-million Connexus CU. The merger is expected to be completed by the end of March.

ACUC Speakers Are Announced
MADISON, Wis.-CUNA has announced the speaker lineup for its Thought Leader sessions at the 2012 America's Credit Union Conference, to be held June 17-20 in San Diego. Those speakers will include John Lass, who will speak to "Building the Credit Union of the Future"; Anna Liotta, who will speak to "What Makes the Generations Tick and What Ticks Them Off"; Dave Horsager, on "The Trust Edge: What Top Leaders Have and Eight Pillars to Build It Yourself," in addition to a panel examining the 2012 elections.
Wood Wins Kanjorski Scholarship
WILKES BARRE, Penn.-Carrie Wood, CEO of Timberland Federal Credit Union, has been named as the first winner of the Pennsylvania CU Association's Paul E. Kanjorski Advocacy Scholarship. Wood was honored at a luncheon with former Congressman Kanjorski, PCUA staff, and members of the Awards Committee. The scholarship covers the expenses to attend the 2012 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington next month.
Ducrest Reappointed In Louisiana
BATON ROUGE, La.-Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal has reappointed John Ducrest as Louisiana's Commissioner of Financial Institutions, including superivision of state-chartered CUs. Ducrest, has served in the position since 2004.
Ralofsky Named New CEO
OSHKOSH, Wis.-The $350-million CitizensFirst Credit Union has named Kevin J. Ralofsky as its new president/CEO. Ralofsky, who is currently CEO of Vacationland FCU in Sandusky, Ohio, will take over on May 29. He has previously had positions with Fifth Third Bancorp and National City Corp.
James Wins Outstanding Service Honor
BROOKLINE, Mass-The Paul J. Marotta Outstanding Service Award has been presented to Nicole James, president of Medical Area FCU, by the Massachusetts CU League's Social Responsibility Committee. James was recognized for efforts to raise funds for the Credit Union Community Hope Initiative.
Texas Foundation Disperses $237K
FARMERS BRANCH, Texas-The Texas CU Foundation reported it dispersed more than $237,285 in grants throughout the state to support financial literacy initiatives, and professional development of staff and volunteers during 2011. Moreover, the Foundation said it was staying true to its mission, "Empowering People to Improve Their Financial Well Being," by paying out $73,400 in grants in the first quarter of 2012.
BizKid$ Back For Season Five
MADISON, Wis.-Biz Kid$, the credit union-sponsored series on PBS that teaches financial literacy to youth, is back for Season Five, with a renewed look at the economy, businesses that give back, and how to make good financial choices. BATON ROUGE, La.-OLOL Regional FCU here has agreed to be absorbed via merger by Campus FCU. The OLOLRFCU facility will become Campus' eighth branch, and the merger will boost CFCU's total assets to $461 million.
