Boutwell Wins Levins Award
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.-Marshall Boutwell, president of Gwinett FCU, has been named the winner of the Buck Levins Award from CUNA, which recognizes an individual whose efforts in the political arena have contributed to elevating the political presence of credit unions at the state or national level. Boutwell most recently was involved in efforts to elect Rep. Rob Woodall to Congress.
Downs, Long-Time CU Leader, Dies
PANAMA CITY, Panama-Cornelia Downs, who served for 34 years as CEO of NCSC FCU (now Innovations FCU) and who became the first female chairman of the Florida league in 1986, has died. Downs was remembered for her "tireless" efforts and "passion" for credit unions. Ms. Downs was 78.
Card Generates $90K For Schools
LAKE MARY, Fla.-CFE Federal Credit Union has made $90,000 in donations to Orange, Seminole, and Osceola County School Boards to support funding of school programs. The donations resulted from the "MyCFE4Schools" debit card partnership program between CFE and the three school districts, in which members can support the district of their choice. Since inception in August 2009, CFE has donated a total of $166,500.
Two CUs Are Liquidated
MOFFATT, Colo.-Two CUs have been liquidated. NCUA and the Colorado Division of Financial Services have liquidated $17-million Saguache County CU and entered into a purchase-and-assumption agreement with the $135-million Aventa CU, Colorado Springs, Colo. The relatively new Sagauche County CU was founded in 1996. In Charlotte, N.C., meanwhile, NCUA has liquidated the $400,000 Shepherd's FCU, a community development CU chartered in 2010 to serve employees of Unity, the Way of Holiness Christian Church here. The two CUs marked the third and fourth liquidations of 2012.
Prohibition Order Is Issued
ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA has issued a order prohibiting Mary Carmen Hartley, a former employee of Mutual Diversified Employees FCU, Santa Ana, Calif., from participating in the affairs of any federally insured financial institution. MDEFCU was liquidated in 2010.
Volunteer Institutes Are Announced
OLYMPIA, Wash.-The Paragon Group, a CUSO of TwinStar Credit Union, has announced the dates and meeting sites of its next two Volunteer Leadership Institutes. The meetings will be held Sept. 23-27 at the Stowe Mountain Lodge in Vermont, and Jan. 15-19, 2013, at the Wailea Beach Marriott on the Big Island of Hawaii. For info: www.theparagongroup.com.
Survey Participants Being Sought
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.-Cornerstone Advisors is inviting credit unions with $250 million and more in assets to participate in its "The Cornerstone Report: Benchmarks and Best Practices for Credit Unions" study. The study examines spending, staffing and process benchmarks, and industry best practices for medium size financial institutions. There is no charge to complete the survey and participants will receive a free compilation of the benchmarking data, plus other information. Newest CU Opens Its Doors
WILMINGTON, Del.-The country's newest CU has opened here: Stepping Stones Community FCU. It was created through a partnership between the Delaware Community Reinvestment Action Council (DCRAC), non-profit organizations, Delaware's financial services industries and community leaders, and its goal is to assist local residents in "entering mainstream banking and give them the financial tools to improve their economic situations."
