DUBUQUE, Iowa-DuTrac Community CU has expanded its ATM network through a partnership with Walgreens. DuTrac members can withdraw cash and make balance inquiries at ATMs located within any Walgreens store throughout Iowa without a surcharge. The $551-million DuTrac has also begun branding ATMs inside the Walgreens stores in Dubuque and on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities area.

Well-Known Attorney, Melchione, Dies

GLENDALE, Calif.-Joseph Melchione, the pony-tailed lawyer who built Styskal, Wiese & Melchione into the nation's leading credit union law firm, has died from lung cancer. Mr. Melchione was 64. Melchione represented credit unions for 37 years in specialties that included CUSOs and board elections and was lead attorney for Continental FCU in its successful 2005 efforts to fend off an unwanted merger by Minnesota's Wings Financial FCU. Melchione, whose firm grew to represent more than 350 credit unions, also served as a faculty member of Western CUNA Management School for more than 25 years.

KCFCU Joins Effort To Honor Officer

BATTLE CREEK, MIch.-Kellogg Community FCU has joined with the the Alchemist Foundry, Edison Neighborhood Association, and the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) in support of a project to create a bronze bust of police officer Eric Zapata for public recognition and memorial. Mr. Zapata was killed in 2011 while responding to a report of shots fired in a Kalamazoo neighborhood. He left behind three children. The finished statue will stand seven feet tall and be surrounded by a small garden area with seating. In this quiet pedestrian area, visitors can reflect on the meaning behind this memorial. KCFCU is acting as a collection point for donations and has also made a donation to the fund.

Canfield Named CEO At Keypoint

SANTA CLARA, Calif.-The $800-million KeyPoint CU has named Brad Canfield as its new CEO. Canfield was formerly CFO with BECu in Washington, and more recently, president of Washington's 1st Security Bank. Canfield will succeed Timothy Kramer, who is retiring after 26 years with the one-time credit union for the American Electronics Association.

White Paper On Mobile Lifestyles

MADISON, Wis.-A new white paper is stressing that in order to meet members' needs for electronic account access credit unions must keep pace with the emergence of the mobile lifestyle. The new paper from the CUNA Technology Council, "The Future of Electronic Account Access: Adapting to the Mobile Lifestyle," is based on information gathered from technology leaders at four credit unions as well as five experts from companies that provide financial services for credit unions. The white paper explores the mobile lifestyle that enables members to shift from one electronic device to another as they move from place to place and task to task. Ninichuck Named Deputy Director

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA has named Martha Ninichuk as the deputy director of its Office of Small Credit Union Initiative. Ninichuk most recently served as the Michigan league's director of cooperative initiatives, and has also worked with the Maryland and D.C. Credit Union Association, and led Warren, Mich.-based St. Cletus CU.

HR/TD Council Elects Board, Officers

MADISON, Wis.-The CUNA HR/TD Council has elected its board officers. Diane Wozniak, manager-HR for Tampa Bay FCU in Tampa, Fla. was elected the chair. Re-elected was Suzanne Oliver, SVP with Mountain America FCU in West Jordan, Utah, who will also become vice chair. Robert Davis, SVP with VyStar CU in Jacksonville, Fla., has been elected secretary/treasurer. Newly elected to the executive committee is Cindy Swigert, chief HR officer with United FCU in St. Joseph, Mich. Norma Stein, VP with SchoolsFirst FCU in Santa Ana, Calif. replaces Michelle Greear, AVP with Technology CU, who has stepped down from the committee.

87-Member CU Is Absorbed

WARMINSTER, Penn.-Freedom CU has absorbed via merger one of the smallest credit unions still operating; the 87-member McKinley Memorial FCU, with $40,000 in shares and $10,000 in loan balances. McKinley FCU served the congregation of McKinley Memorial Baptist Church.

Buffalo Metropolitan Marking 75th

BUFFALO, N.Y.-The $81-million Buffalo Metropolitan FCU will mark its 75th Anniversary on May 18, and to commemorate the milestone it will introduce a special low-rate summer loan to help with purchases such as swing sets, barbeque grills, patio sets, decks, hot tubs and pools. Members approved for loans will spin a prize wheel that includes prizes such as a lounge chair, car wash gift certificates and $75 Visa gift cards.
