NAFCU Expands Marketing Rewards

ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU has expanded its 2013 Marketing Awards Program to include three asset size groups (up from two) and is accepting entries across eight categories. The entry deadline is Nov. 1. Entries may be submitted online at www.nafcu.org/marketingawards.

Several Iowans Are Honored

CORALVILLE, Iowa-The Iowa CU League has honored several people. Winner of the Heritage Award for extraordinary commitment, service and leadership within CUs, was Paul Becker of Citizens Community CU. Winner of the Professional Cooperative Spirit Award was Paul Lensmeyer of Ascentra CU. And winner of the Volunteer Cooperative Spirit Award were Art and Sally Miller of Dubuque Teachers. Named as 2012 Young Professional of the Year was Kathryn Johnson of Sioux Valley Community CU.

Cal./Nev. Leagues Honor Execs

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.-The California and Nevada CU Leagues plan to honor several people at their November annual meeting, including Bruce Barnett, retired CEO of Educational Employees CU, who has been named winner of the 2012 Leo H. Shapiro Lifetime Achievement Award. Other winners include: Distinguished Service Award, to United Health CU CEO Linda White; and Outstanding Volunteer Awards, to Mid-Cities CU Treasurer Roy Brooks and CoastHills FCU Chair Hugh Rafferty.

Trylko Named Among Best CEOs

AUSTIN, Texas-Paul Trylko, CEO of Amplify FCU here and chairman of the Texas league, has been named by the Austin Business Journal as one of its 2012 Best Austin CEOs.

Next Top Exec Judges Named

MADISON, Wis.-The judges for the CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec challenge have been announced: Deedee Myers, CEO of DDJ Myers in Phoenix; Dr. Desreen Marquis, CEO of NAJ Co-operative Credit Union, Kingston, Jamaica; and Patrick La Pine, CEO of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates, Tallahassee, Fla. The judges will choose from among five finalists' projects following a project "face-off" at CUES' CEO/Executive Team Network in November in Florida.

Pomeroy Retires After 30-year Career

WATERVILLE, Maine-Debi Pomeroy, who began her credit union career as a teller at nearby Keyes Fiber FCU (now KSW FCU) and worked her way up to be CEO of HealthFirst FCU, retired as head of the $17-million credit union after 30 years in the credit union movement. Pomeroy has been succeeded by Lynda Quirion.

Kansas, Nebraska Leagues Partner

WICHITA-The Kansas Credit Union Association (KCUA) and Nebraska Credit Union League have joined forces to offer networking Councils to their affiliated credit unions. Nebraska credit unions can join the already established Lending Council, Marketing Council and CUnext Young Professionals Council, launched last year by KCUA.

More CUs Enter Into Mergers

EAST HARTFORD, Conn.-The $1.4-billion American Eagle FCU has added a new branch by absorbing via merger the $13-million Hartford Postal Employees CU. In San Marcos, Texas, $500-million Greater TEXAS FCU is absorbing the $2.4-million St. John's FCU via merger. In Santa Rose, Calif., the $143-million Community First FCU is absorbing Health Care Professionals FCU, Napa, and its 1,200 members. And in Rapid City, S.D., the $950-million Black Hills FCU has absorbed the $554,000 CR Community First FCU, which was established in 2007 to serve the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota, which according to census figures ranks among the poorest areas in the nation.

Healthcare CUs Hold Meeting

SEATTLE-The Healthcare Credit Union Association held its sixth annual conference here. Themed "Staying Alive," representatives from more than 20 CUs attended.

Generations FCU Names Schipull CEO

SAN ANTONIO-The $400-million Generations FCU has named Steve Schipull as its new CEO, replacing the retiring Tim F. Haegelin. Schipull has been with Generations since 1999, most recently as CFO.

LA FCU Named Readers' Choice

LOS ANGELES-Los Angeles FCU has been voted as having the "Best Financial Services" in the Glendale News-Press "2012 Best of Glendale Reader's Choice Awards."
