North, South Carolina CULs To Merge

COLUMBIA, S.C. and RALEIGH, N.C.-The boards of the South Carolina CU League and North Carolina CU League voted to recommend a merger of two groups. The announcement follows the proposed merger of the Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma leagues, the combination of the Florida and Alabama leagues a few years ago, and of the Oregon and Washington leagues the year before that.

Prohibition Orders Are Issued

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA has issued prohibition orders against:

* Ashley Ayotte, a former employee of SeaComm FCU, who pleaded guilty to the charge of grand larceny. Ayotte was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $23,500.

* Deborah Bomia, a former employee of Enterprise CU, who pleaded guilty to embezzlment and was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $85,233.75.

* Sharon Broadway, a former employee of United Catholic CU, who was found guilty of criminal enterprise and embezzlement and sentenced to a minimum of 45 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2,598,197.16.

* Pamela Emig, a former employee of Enterprise CU, who pleaded guilty to the charge of embezzlement and who was sentenced to three years in prison, two years supervised release and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $819,405.15.

* Georgia Schwartz, a former employee of Glen Ullin CU who was found guilty of embezzlement and misapplication from a credit union and who was sentenced to time served, three years supervised release and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $130,119.19

Falkland Islands Seek CU Help

STANLEY, Falkland Islands-American CU execs are providing guidance to credit unions in the Falkland Islands. Dwayne Naylor, COO with Local Government CU in Raleigh, N.C., vistited the Falkland Islands to assist the Falkland Islands Development Corporation with establishing a sustainable CU framework for its citizens. Naylor was on assignment for World Council of CUs.

One bank branch currently operates on the Falkland Islands, yet residents find it difficult to access credit. The government established the Development Corp. to provide financing to island businesses that have been refused bank financing. WOCCU said that despite keen local interest, the Falkland Islands' small population remains a challenge to CU sustainability, as there are just 2,300 working-age islanders.

MADISON, Wis.-Named as winners of the Excellence Awards by the CUNA HR/TD Council were, in their respective asset categories:

* Employee Engagement: Town & Country FCU, South Portland, Maine, for its "Employee Experience Team" Program, and Member One FCU in Roanoke, Va., for its "Using the Humanities to Give Business Training a Soul" program and Mountain America CU in West Jordan, Utah, for its "How-to Training Videos."

* HR/TD Management Practices: Maps CU in Salem, Ore. for its "To the Olympics and Beyond/Health and Wellness" program; Red Canoe CU, Longview, Wash., for its "Commit to be Fit" program, and Mountain America for "IRA eLearning Suite."

* HR/TD Strategic Leadership: Town & Country FCU, South Portland, Maine, for its "Online Banking Conversion," and UW CU in Madison, Wis., for its "Emerging Leader" program.

More CUs In Mergers

RYE, N.Y.-USAlliance FCU is absorbing via merger UniteHere FCU, which serves the garment, food service, hotel and health care workers in New York City. In Alameda, Calif., Alameda CU is being absorbed by Provident CU.

GFTFCU Embarks On New Course

GREAT FALLS, Mont.-Great Falls Teachers FCU is now Embark FCU. The new name reflects a change in FOM away from the original educational field.

Mayer Named Mont. Pro of Year

HELENA, Mont-Kevin Mayer, manager of Richland FCU, has been named Professional of the Year by the Montana CU network. Mayer has been at RFCU for nearly 30 years and is also active in his community.

Delaware Leaders Are Recognized

NEW CASTLE, Del.-The Delaware CU League has named Pamela Fleuette, CEO of Sussex County FCU, as its 2012 Outstanding Credit Union Professional, while Gerald Reynolds of Delaware State Police CU, was named 2012 Outstanding CU Volunteer.

Elected as board officers of the Delaware CU League were Allen Riley of Sussex County FCU as chair; Joel Romaine of Community Powered FCU as vice chair; Meredith Jeffries of new Castle County Delaware EFCU as secretary, and Cheryl Chilcutt of Louviers FCU as treasurer.
